Question
What is the Flesh Rank?
Answer
The Flesch Rank (also: Flesh Score or Flesh Reading Ease) is a metric to determine the readability of a text. It is measured in a value between 0 and 100. The higher the value, the easier the text is to understand and read. The average sentence length and the average number of syllables per word are included in the calculation of the Flesch Index. The Flesch Index is categorized as follows:
0-30: Very difficult (academics)
30-50: Difficult
50-60: Moderately difficult
60-70: Medium (13-15 year old students)
70-80: Moderately easy
80-90: Easy
90-100: Very easy (11 year old students)
Readability is not a ranking factor for Google. However, the readability analysis helps to optimize texts for the desired target group. Furthermore, easy-to-read texts can ensure lower abandonment rates and longer dwell times.
